About This Forum

Women in Governance: From Participation to Power is an international forum examining what genuine political representation requires — and what stands in the way of achieving it in contexts as different as Argentina, Sweden, Kenya, and South Korea.

Beyond the Numbers

Quotas and parity measures have increased the number of women in political offices around the world. But representation is not the same as power — and this forum is designed to examine the gap between the two.

“Getting women into rooms is necessary. Changing what happens in those rooms is the harder work.”

Panels and working sessions will address:

• Institutional culture — how political institutions remain structured around male norms even when women are present.
• Legislative impact — whether and how women’s presence in governance changes policy outcomes.
• Backlash and resilience — the personal and professional cost of political leadership for women, and the support structures that make it sustainable.
• Local and municipal leadership — often overlooked, but frequently where the most transformative work happens.

Who Should Come

This forum is designed for current and aspiring political leaders, policy researchers, civil society advocates, and anyone working at the intersection of gender and governance. Simultaneous interpretation will be provided in English and Spanish.
